How do I determine if my child needs a physical therapy evaluation?
Some developmental concerns that you may want to have addressed by a physical
therapist include:

  • If your child was born before 34-26 weeks gestational age

  • Excessive floppiness throughout your child’s body

  • Increased stiffness in our child’s trunk , neck, arms, legs

  • Preference to only look to one side,, inability to move head to each side, stiff neck

  • Poor tolerance for tummy time, not able to push through arms when lying on their
    belly at 3-4 months

  • Decreased use of one side of their body

  • Not rolling by 6-7 months

  • Unable to sit on their own by 8 months

  • Inability to bear weight through feet when supported at 9 months

  • Not crawling by 10-11 months

  • Inability to stand independently by 12 months

  • Not walking independently by 14-15 months

  • Excessive toe walking after the age of 2

  • Frequent tripping, falls and general uncoordinated movement

  • Unable to keep up with peers of the same age

How long do sessions last?

An evaluation is typically 60-75 minutes. Treatment sessions can be 45 minutes to an hour.

What age do you treat?

Miracles in motion treat children from birth to 18 years old.

What is an intensive?

Our Intensive Therapy Program is focused and effective, helping your child achieve therapeutic goals faster than traditional interventions. Our therapists create tailored programs of DMI and PT varying in time, duration, intensity, and tools. DMI is best applied as a strong or intensive intervention, ranging from 1-3 weeks for 45-90 minute sessions. Children often achieve more progress in two to three weeks than in a year of traditional therapy. This intensive approach builds endurance and teaches their brain and body to respond to new and challenging exercises. We do offer longer intensives for those able to commit. Feel free to reach out to discuss further options.

What is DMI?

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic technique used in physical and  occupational therapy to treat children with motor delay by improving automatic postural  responses and help each child progress towards developmental milestones (Ie. rolling, sitting, four-point,  crawling, standing, walking and transitions). The goal of DMI is to provoke a specified active  motor response from the child in response to defined dynamic exercises prescribed by the  therapist. (This means that the therapist will present an exercise in order to provoke a specific movement or response from your child.)

This comprehensive intervention reflects current research on neurorehabilitation, technologies and methodologies. DMI stimulates neuroplasticity  to help your child’s brain make new and improved connections and develop their motor milestones.

What if I just want an assessment?

Yes, you are able to schedule just an evaluation. Treatment frequency is determined by the
Physical therapist recommendation based on evaluation and what works best for your child’s
schedule.
